Suede Parade

When you think of autumnal fashion, suede is often the go-to for those in the know. This velvety material has seen its fair share of eras in style, like the bohemian fringe jackets of the 1970s. It whispers luxury, and fall 2024 appears to be suede’s true renaissance, adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit with its buttery finish.

So how do we ride the trend while adapting it to the feel of 2024 fashion? I suggest switching up the color palette of your suede picks. Usually, we reach for earthy tones or neutrals, like browns or blacks. Put a twist on the norm by choosing a deep plum or emerald green. Jewel tones are always a fantastic way to make a statement since they’re muted enough to stay minimalistic while adding a pop of color to your ensemble!

The typical suede pick might be a jacket or pair of shoes, but I say we turn to accessories for a change! Suede bags or belts can provide an outfit with some much-needed texture and open the door toward mixing suede with different textures, like denim or silk.

Before we jump into some of my favorite picks, let’s talk maintenance. After all, suede can be a bit finicky. But a little extra love can go a long way in enhancing the longevity of a suede piece. I suggest investing in a suede brush and protectant spray (I recommend this care kit from Margaux!) to keep your suede in tip-top shape. And remember, water is suede’s worst enemy! If the weather looks questionable, swap your suede for a more weather-resistant item.

Now, let’s dive into some suede selections for this fall! I’ve curated a collection of suede pieces that are sure to deliver luxe to your daily rotation. Take a look and happy shopping!

BLANKNYC Faux Suede Fringe Coat in “Brown” from Anthropologie ($198.00)

This pick is so seventies. Call me biased since the seventies are my favorite era for fashion (Stevie Nicks is my number one style inspiration), but this coat from Anthropologie is the perfect garment for layering and playing with different textures.

Veda Carla Low Waist Leather Skirt in “Mole Suede” from Reformation ($248.00)

I’m always a sucker for low-waisted bottoms, and this skirt from Reformation is the perfect way to incorporate some suede! To style, pair with a cute cardigan and some tall boots for a look that screams autumn.

The Day Glove in “Bordeaux Suede” from Everlane ($138.00)

The rich wine shade of these ballet flats from Everlane captured my attention as soon as I started searching for suede pieces. Don these beauties when you’re looking for a soft, feminine touch to add to your outfit.

Sabine Suede Belt in “Emerald” from Free People ($38.00)

I love a good statement belt, and this one from Free People comes in so many different colorways! I was particularly drawn to this emerald tone. The elegance of the buckle design combined with the sleekness of the suede is to die for!
