Do we really care for seasons and colors?

Now this doesn’t mean what you think it does. I’ll say this title is rather misleading. Because of course we care about the seasons, and what’s life without color? What I’m asking is do the seasons really dictate what we wear anymore, and in that vein, do any of us really care what colors are worn when these days?

Runway schedules aren’t synced up with the seasons, celebrities never dress for the weather, and most of us work and live with air conditioning. As a result, we all dress however we please year-round. There used to be the classic faux pas of wearing white after Labor Day, but even this is now a rule of a bygone era. We don’t live in a time where season or weather dictates what we wear. With the summers growing longer as global warming’s impacts on the planet are felt more and more each year, the lines of when to wear what is blurred.

If I can comfortably be in shorts into November and wear a sweater in the dead of Summer while in my office, then what the fuck am I dressing practically for. Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion that 9 times out of 10, I’m going to sweat, so why try to dress for the heat and sacrifice in style? If you run cold, then why aren’t you layering? I suppose what I’m really saying is no more rules, I’m sick of outdated styling rules as a whole. I find it rather odd that in this day and age we still follow pithy fashion advice from and deify the likes of Coco Chanel. Who, lest we forget, was a Nazi. Fashion should and could be beyond rules and outdated heroes! It’s time to stop abiding by the status quo and start telling your own story with fashion.
