While everyone’s(me) talking about the perfect white T-shirt, we’ve been missing the fashion staple right under our noses…the graphic T. Ineffable, always in style, and a true democratizer of fashion it’s hard to put words to just how important the graphic tee really is.

I think its beauty lies in its ability to be translated into any wardrobe and every echelon of fashion. The punk has one just the same as the preppy, they’re made by urban outfitters and shown in couture shows by Balenciaga. You can feasibly recreate the runway by finding the right shirt with the right fit at a thrift store.

What I think most people fail to realize is that the best graphic T’s are often held and collected over time. We always want to buy into age, we want pre-weathered jeans, we want faded jackets, we want classic band tees but we don’t put in the time.One of my biggest tips to those looking to get into this worn and weathered look is to actually wear and actually weather your clothing. The graphic t-shirt is the perfect example:

“hold on to them, stain them, let them get holes, really wear them. The only way to get the real look is by really aging your clothes.”

My favorite graphic t’s are the ones I’ve held on to the longest, while this might sound obvious, what I mean is that a good graphic T-shirt becomes a great graphic T-shirt with wear, love, and time.
