Loafers for Fall

When you’re shopping for shoes online, do you ever notice that loafers (more often than not) have their own category on the dropdown menu? That’s because we've been seeing a surge of loafers - designer or not - in the fashion community over the past few years. From Kendall Jenner to Dakota Johnson to the most influential social media icons, it’s hard not to notice the iconic footwear choice amongst the elite.

But what about the loafer makes it so desirable that major retailers like Nordstrom, Sam Edelman, and Gucci are making a profit around the world? Unlike a typical sneaker, a loafer is easy to slip on and off and elevates even the most basic outfit. And while shoes like ballet flats or mules offer the same ease, I’d argue that loafers lend a sense of power and business over the latter options.

Often associated with professional business clothing, the loafer can be just as chic as a vintage pair of Levi’s and a white tee for a more casual approach. Or, pair them with a mini skirt and fun blouse for happy hour with the girls. Loafers have been around since the early 1900s and are (excitingly) here to stay. Whether your budget is $100 or $900, I’ve rounded up various loafer styles with varying price points to add to your wardrobe this fall.

#1 – The Believer Slingback Loafer by Anne Klein from Nordstrom ($79)

Under $100 full-price, The Believer Loafer by Anne Klein offers a unique approach to the iconic penny loafer with its slingback style. Available in 3 colors, this is a great affordable option that would be perfect for early fall considering the open-back.

#2 – Loraine Bit Loafer by Sam Edelman ($150)

The Loraine Bit Loafer by Sam Edelman is a designer look-for-less that instantly elevates any outfit. Available in over 30 colors/patterns, The Loraine is a crowd-favorite for a reason. While the sleek silhouette makes this shoe so desirable for everyday wear, the gold hardware adds a quiet, understated luxury.

#3 – The Vernon Loafer by Madewell ($158)

Close in price point to The Loraine Loafer, The Vernon Loafer by Madewell differs with a slightly more elevated heel, penny strap, and no gold hardware. Available in black or brown and added cushion for extra comfort, this is an everyday shoe that will take you from the office to happy hour with ease.

#4 – The Andie Loafer by Margaux ($345)

If your budget is somewhere in the middle, might I suggest The Andie Loafer by Margaux. Designed in New York and made in Spain, this loafer is the epitome of inclusive luxury. Available in 6 colors and 3 widths, The Andie Loafer provides a polished, yet comfortable look to carry you through the city.

#5 – Jordaan Loafer by Gucci ($990)

When I think of a loafer, my mind immediately goes to the classic Jordaan Loafer by Gucci. Iconically luxury, this horse-bit loafer is recognized around the world. Available in 11 different variations, the Jordaan brings a certain elegance to any outfit.
