From Pop-Up to One of Brooklyn’s Best Pizzas!
Chrissy’s Pizza started as a Bushwick pop-up from the owner’s apartment in 2021 and quickly gained a loyal following for their fresh, delicious, and unique takes on NYC pies made with high-quality ingredients. In 2023, they opened their first permanent location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, featuring a nostalgic, retro interior. The menu is simple yet thoughtful, offering only five pies, including some amazing classics and a rotating specialty pizza. They serve full 16-inch pies—no slices—and prices range from $30 to $36. While it’s definitely on the pricier side, I would rank Chrissy’s among my top three pizzas in NYC.
The small and intimate dining area features memories from the owner’s childhood home as a tribute to his father who inspired his love for pizza. The space has a bright, tomato-red counter with room for six or seven people to stand and eat. The walls are filled with references to the owner’s hometown, Valley Stream, such as movie posters and a photo of his late father in front of his Valley Stream Auto Parts van. There’s also a vintage television playing movies, making the time go by when waiting for the pizza to come out. Hansell aimed to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the old places he frequented with his father.
Each pie is topped with a generous drizzle of olive oil and a beautiful dusting of grated parmesan, both of which enhance the savory flavor of the dough. The crust is thin, crispy, and perfectly charred, definitely making it one of the best crusts I’ve ever had. I absolutely loved their Spicy White—a twist on the classic white pie, featuring spicy chili oil, hot peppers, hot honey, and dollops of ricotta. You must try it.
The classic pie was great too, but the white outshined it for me. The red sauce is tangy, which I really enjoyed, though I wish I had tried the pepperoni, as every pepperoni pizza I saw before my order glistened beautifully.
I’ve heard of people waiting up to two hours for a pie, but if you go at a random time—like I did at 3:20 PM on a Sunday—you might only have to wait around 20 minutes like I did. But just for your information!! Chrissy’s Pizza operates from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Thursday through Monday, and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
