Charmed by bag charms?

Have you seen it? More accurately, have you heard it?

Suddenly everywhere I look I see bag charms. Big, small, tacky, chic(if bag charms can be such a thing) they’re everywhere. And, honestly, I think I love them and this trend. It’s so accessible. So achievable without outsized investment. Better still, It’s eco-friendly and sustainable in that it doesn’t require anyone to purchase a new bag or new charms in order to participate.

Grab any old tote, purse, or clutch and slap on some bracelets, cheap pearls, necklaces, or keychains, and call it a day. I love how, and excuse the crassness, “fuck it” it feels. Maximalist and blasé and completely wrapped in a sort of Sprezzatura, or “studied carelessness” for those of us who’ve missed out on my favorite Italian word. Whether you’re sporting a demure and understated office bag or going full “Iris Apfel” with your look, there’s a level of charm out there for you.

And, even though it’s a trend that began to pop up around spring, it’s held its grip well into summer. For those of you worried you may be too late, I’d like to cast my predictions now and say I believe it has legs to make it to this Fall. Frankly, I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to participate. You more likely than not have all of the necessary ingredients in your closets and junk drawers at this very moment.

Why not have a little fun? Embrace the whimsical nature that so often is at the core of style and fashion! Throw a charm on it, it’ll make you feel better, or at the very least help your friends find you in a dark crowded room!
