A Taste of the Caribbean in NYC

Found in the heart of Crown heights on the corner of St. Marks and Nostrand Ave, is the most charming ice cream shop with flavors you probably have never heard of. Their brightly colored interior and serving the most unique and refreshing flavors, gives Brooklyn a Caribbean staple.

One of the most popular flavors all year around is their soursop flavor. Now, you’re probably wondering what soursop is? Fair question, as it is mostly native to Central and South America and the Caribbean. It’s very difficult to describe its taste and find a comparison, but I’ll do the best that I can - simply put, it tastes like a combination of multiple fruits, including mango, strawberries, bananas etc, with also with a hint of sourness, as its name suggests. Other flavors include sorrel, passionfruit, Guinness caramel (excellent incorporation of liquor), and guava cheesecake.

Would I call this my favorite ice cream shop in NYC? Undoubtedly yes, but maybe I’m biased? But why settle for basic vanilla and chocolate, when you can have flavors that transport you to a Caribbean beach. Also, a crowd favorite that unfortunately isn’t all year around, is their seasonal star - Black Cake Ponche de Creme, which is a mixture of two festive Caribbean delicacies, that only comes around during Christmas. Take your significant other on a hot summer day and walk to the park with ice cream in hand, or order in if you want a cozy movie night (also offer delivery), I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
