No More Decisions At Dinner!

Omakase is a conversation of delectable culinary creations between the customer and the chef. It is one of the most thoughtful and amazing dining experiences, whether it be here in New York City or Japan. The term Omakase literally means “I leave it up to you” and is a culinary experience that allows diners to explore a new adventure with food.

When it comes to the Omakase dining experience in New York City it saddens me that it normally is associated with a high price point for it to really be worth your time. I have experienced both high-end, as well as affordable ones, and I will say there is a difference. Not only in the ingredients but also in the overall experience.

For example at a more affordable Omakase I visited, I was SO DISAPPOINTED, not only was the fish low quality but the chefs were so unfriendly and it was so clear the only reason they created an “Omakase menu” was because of the trend and the possibility to blow up on TikTok. Experiences like this make me so ANGRY!

I am not saying there are no affordable Omakase spots in the city that are not great, but it baffles me when so many people have spoken about their unimpressed Omakase experiences when it is so clear they have not even truly experienced it. It is not just supposed to be another high end tasting menu.

Something that I have always loved about Omakase dining is how we do not have to choose anything! It can be liberating especially when most of us live a life consistently filled with having to make decisions all day. Isn't it nice that at dinner we can just leave it all up to someone else for a change?

No responsibilities, just a great meal, an escape from our daily lives and a full belly.
