Top 3 Bites of October with Taste-maker @with.calvin

October: arguably the most fabulous month in New York City. The sticky, muggy days of summer are a distant memory, the bugs have officially clocked out, and it’s time to rock those cozy sweaters while sipping a steaming hot beverage. This month also served up some seriously delicious bites, making it tough to narrow down my favorites.

So here are the Top 3 October treats that are totally worth peeling yourself away from your snug winter comforter!

Ensaymada from Tadhana

This was by far the most memorable bite that I’ve had this past month. I’m a sucker for sweets, and this beautiful combination of marshmallow fluff, buttercream and brioche was extremely comforting. On top of that, the combination of chevre and kinako added different layers of funk and texture to the dish. It was basically a hug in dessert form in the best possible way!

Poblano Meatloaf from Kellogg’s Diner

You know when you order a spread of dishes and for the last one you think, “Eh? Why not! I’d be interested to try that.” Well, this was that dish…and it blew us out of the water! The Poblano Meatloaf looks simple, but the actual meatloaf was tender and the chipotle glaze helped pack so much flavor. As for the sides, the mashed potatoes were buttery and silky smooth, and the green beans were cooked to crunchy perfection. After having multiple dishes the entire night, this is the dish we kept coming back to again and again!

Orange from Salswee

The combination of chocolate and orange is one of my all-time favorite dessert combinations, and Salswee’s trompe l'oeil version really does it justice. Sitting on a small chocolate rice krispy treat, the thin orange ganache shell delicately breaks to reveal an orange coulis filling and almond biscuit. If you like creamsicles, you’ll definitely like this – a perfect trifecta of ingredients.
