Sip and Guzzle is a new cocktail bar that was recently opened by the same makers of Angel’s Share and Employees Only, in Greenwich Village. The cocktail menu emphasizes creativity in drinks that run $21 to $30 or so which is STEEP. But let me tell you, these cocktails are works of art, from presentation to taste they elevate their cocktails to a level where one questions “How in the hell is there wasabi and sushi vinegar in this drink?” This cocktail that sparked that reaction out of me was the Japanese Wax. I am a whiskey lover so when I saw this crazy combination of flavors I knew I had to taste it. It consisted of sake, Japanese whisky, sushi vinegar, and wasabi which may sound gross but wow was I WRONG! They also have more reasonably priced Japanese cocktail classics like refreshing highballs, as well as some delicious mocktails for the non-drinkers in your friend group. But what had me impressed were their infusions of liquors like the bacon-infused rye whiskey. Also if you love highballs, I do not, but the Sherry Colada Highball was one of the very first highballs I have EVER enjoyed. It had this amazing cream sherry and coconut pineapple seltzer that won me over but that may just be because I love this fruit combo in a cocktail!
Angel’s Share is one of the most world-renowned cocktail bars in NYC and was reopened in the West Village this past year! This bar started back in 1993 with Tony Yoshida, known for essentially bringing the classic style of Japanese cocktail culture to the city. It is now run by his daughter, Erina Yoshida, who has successfully kept the integrity of the culture, bar, and brand in line with this reopening. I won’t lie to you guys, this bar is one of the hardest bars to get into as it is small, does not do reservations, and is on almost everyone’s must-visit lists, but TRUST ME IT IS WORTH THE WAIT! They have a cocktail for anyone and if you like something light and smooth I personally love their “Danny Boy” which is a gin cocktail that has this amazing Earl Grey mist. To something more spirit forward such as “Downtime” which has this delicious pear-infused toki whiskey.
Attaboy is a world-renowned cocktail bar and NEVER DISAPPOINTS. From classics to innovative cocktails you tell your bartender, the flavors you like, and alcohol preferences, and taking that information as well as your “vibe” they handcraft a cocktail just for you! It feels personal and honestly, it is astonishing how they can just make a drink based on 4 questions they ask you and not have it turn out to be as basic as a tequila soda. These bartenders are fun, creative, and talented, always making sure your drink is exactly what you want and like, sometimes even before you know what you like. The line here tends to be long, and once you go you will understand why! It’s not a “try hard” bar that is made to trend but truly is a gem that has earned its title of one of the best bars in the world.
